Over two decades ago, Patti White’s daughter, Lisa, made a life-changing announcement: she was pregnant.

Lisa has Down syndrome. At the time, she was living independently, working full-time, and in a committed relationship with a man who also had Down syndrome. Lisa experienced a typical pregnancy—morning sickness, doctor visits, and childbirth classes. When her son, Nic, was born prematurely, doctors discovered that he, too, had Down syndrome.

Tragedy struck when Nic’s father passed away when he was just five years old. From that point on, Lisa and Patti teamed up to raise Nic with love, stability, and strength.

Now 24, Nic is thriving. He speaks proudly about the women who raised him, especially his mom, whom he describes as his “biggest source of love and support.”
