Major CBS Show Canceled After 5 Seasons

CBS Cancels ‘The Equalizer’ After Five Seasons

After five action-packed seasons, The Equalizer will come to an end. CBS has officially canceled the Queen Latifah-led drama, making it the latest casualty in the network’s lineup reshuffling ahead of the 2025-26 television season.

The announcement arrives just days before the Season 5 finale, now confirmed to be the show’s last episode. Despite steady ratings—averaging nearly 6 million viewers—numbers were slightly down from previous seasons, contributing to the network’s final decision.

Starring Queen Latifah as Robyn McCall, a former CIA operative-turned-vigilante helping those with nowhere else to turn, The Equalizer reboot first premiered in 2021. The series was praised for its strong performances, especially by Latifah, and its fresh take on the original 1985 drama created by Michael Sloan and Richard Lindheim.

Although CBS had explored expanding the franchise, plans for a spinoff featuring Titus Welliver and Juani Feliz—who were introduced earlier in Season 5—have also been shelved. The episode that served as a potential backdoor pilot aired on April 20, but the network ultimately decided not to move forward.

In addition to Latifah, the show featured a strong supporting cast including Tory Kittles, Adam Goldberg, Liza Lapira, Laya DeLeon Hayes, and Lorraine Toussaint.

The Equalizer becomes the seventh series canceled by CBS ahead of next season, joining the likes of Blue BloodsS.W.A.T.FBI: Most WantedFBI: InternationalPoppa’s House, and reality competition The Summit. CBS’s upcoming lineup is so packed that even Matthew Gray Gubler’s new series Einstein has been postponed until the 2026-27 season.

It’s unclear whether another network or streaming platform might pick up The Equalizer, as it’s co-produced by CBS Studios and Universal Television. For now, fans can catch the final episode on Sunday at 10 p.m. ET on CBS, or stream previous episodes on Paramount+.

While the series may be ending, Robyn McCall’s legacy as a modern-day hero remains firmly intact.
