After more than a century, the Boy Scouts of America is getting a major makeover—starting with its name.
As of 2025, the iconic youth organization will be known as Scouting America, a change that leaders say better reflects the group’s commitment to inclusivity and a broader mission.
The announcement was made during the organization’s annual meeting in Florida, just ahead of its 115th anniversary on February 8. CEO Roger Krone emphasized that this shift is about looking forward—and making sure every young person feels welcome.
Why the Change?
The rebrand comes after years of major transitions. Since 2013, the organization has opened its doors to gay youth, later allowing girls to join in 2018. It was a groundbreaking shift for a group long known for its traditional, male-focused image.
But the organization has also faced serious challenges, including financial troubles and a wave of abuse allegations. Leaders believe the name change is a vital step toward rebuilding trust and creating a more inclusive space.
“We want every kid in America to feel like this is a place for them,” Krone said.
Not Without Controversy
Not everyone is on board. Some critics, including Senator Ted Cruz, have accused the organization of abandoning its roots. But supporters say this is exactly the kind of change needed to keep the group alive—and relevant—for future generations.
“It’s not about erasing the past,” one scout parent shared online. “It’s about growing with the times and making sure all kids feel they belong.”
A New Chapter Begins
The shift to Scouting America is more than just a name change—it’s a bold step toward reimagining what it means to be a Scout in the 21st century.
With a renewed focus on inclusivity, community, and resilience, Scouting America hopes to honor its legacy while building a future that works for everyone.
