“Sole Survivor: One Man Walks Away from Air India Tragedy”

In what many are calling a miracle, one man emerged alive from the wreckage of Air India Flight 171—a disaster that claimed the lives of over 240 people.

The London-bound Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner had just taken off from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on June 12 when tragedy struck. Minutes after departure, the aircraft crashed into a nearby medical college campus, killing most of the 242 passengers and crew onboard.

Scenes from the crash site paint a haunting picture: torn fuselage scattered across rooftops, smoldering debris, and a section of the aircraft’s tail lodged into the side of a building. Emergency crews worked through the rubble, confirming the heartbreaking loss of life.

Initially, officials reported no survivors. But hope resurfaced when one man was found alive among the devastation. That man is 40-year-old Vishwas Kumar Ramesh, a British national visiting India. He had been traveling with his brother, Ajay, after spending time together in Diu.

“I heard a loud noise right after takeoff, and then everything went dark,” Vishwas recalled from his hospital bed. Bruised but conscious, he managed to walk through the smoke and chaos. “There were bodies all around me. I stood up and ran until someone helped me.”

Now under close medical supervision, Vishwas waits anxiously for news of his brother, who has yet to be located.

Also aboard the flight were Jamie and Fiongal Greenlaw-Meek from London, who tragically did not survive. A joyful video they recorded just before boarding—filled with smiles and love—now serves as a poignant reminder of how quickly life can change.

As investigations continue and families mourn, Vishwas’ survival offers a flicker of light amid the sorrow—a reminder that even in the darkest moments, hope can still rise from the ashes.
