- Barack Obama: 5.3 million deportations – 0 injunctions
- Donald Trump: 100,000 deportations – 30 injunctions
Musk reshared the chart with a simple response: “Hmm,” prompting conversation among his followers. The post appeared to suggest a contrast in legal pushback across administrations, although no direct commentary was made on immigration policies themselves.
In a separate post, Musk also resurfaced a video from 2011 in which then-President Barack Obama introduced a federal initiative aimed at reducing government inefficiency. Musk drew a parallel between that initiative and his own recently proposed “Department of Government Efficiency” — a conceptual plan he calls DOGE.
In the clip, Obama discusses cutting wasteful spending, joking that then-Vice President Joe Biden would lead the initiative because “nobody messes with Joe.” Examples of waste included funding for a website promoting a folk music group made up of forest rangers and unused federal buildings.
Musk captioned the video: “Sounds exactly like DOGE,” implying that bipartisan concern over government efficiency isn’t new. The resurfaced video quickly went viral, sparking comparisons between past and current approaches to federal spending and accountability.
