John A. Sarcone III has been appointed interim U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of New York. He was sworn in this month in Albany and will serve in the role without Senate confirmation, as permitted under federal law for interim appointments.

He also noted a focus on protecting individuals from harassment based on their religious beliefs, especially on college campuses.

Sarcone’s appointment has drawn attention due to resurfaced social media posts from past years in which he criticized several political figures. These posts, while not directly related to his new role, have been noted by observers and media outlets following his appointment.

Meanwhile, federal law enforcement authorities announced the arrest of a key leader of the MS-13 criminal organization on the East Coast. The 24-year-old suspect was apprehended in Woodbridge, Virginia. According to officials, the individual is among the top leadership of the gang nationally. The operation was coordinated by the FBI with assistance from other federal agencies, and the suspect is expected to face legal proceedings soon.
