Residents Voice Frustration Over Local Representation Gaps in Queens and the Bronx

Some residents in parts of Queens and the Bronx have recently expressed concerns about the level of local engagement and accessibility from their congressional representative. Issues raised include limited office hours, difficulty reaching staff by phone, and a perceived drop in community events like town halls.

Constituents have noted that while the representative once held regular public meetings, these events have become less frequent and sometimes lack opportunities for direct interaction. In some instances, community members report that events have been rescheduled or shortened, leading to a sense of disconnection between elected officials and residents.

At a recent town hall in Jackson Heights, attendees reported that only a handful of questions were taken before the event concluded. Several community members voiced their disappointment, stating that more time should be dedicated to addressing local concerns like public safety, job opportunities, and traffic issues.

One longtime resident of Woodside shared that while they appreciate national-level advocacy, they would like to see more focus on day-to-day issues impacting neighborhoods in the district. Others echoed the sentiment, pointing to instances where their representative was active on national matters but less visible during local emergencies, such as severe weather events or infrastructure challenges.

Some have also expressed concern that local initiatives, such as climate resilience projects aimed at improving flood prevention, have not received consistent support. The cancellation of federal grants for such programs has only increased residents’ calls for stronger advocacy on local infrastructure and environmental priorities.

While the representative continues to maintain a high public profile and work on a broad range of issues, critics in the district are urging a renewed focus on neighborhood-level needs. Their message is clear: they want to feel heard and supported—especially when it comes to the everyday challenges their communities face.
