A tragic accident occurred off the coast of Egypt when a tourist submarine carrying 44 passengers sank near the resort town of Hurghada. The incident, which took place near the Sindbad Club Hotel marina, resulted in the deaths of six people, with several others injured.
Victims and Rescue Efforts
The passengers on board, including children, were primarily international tourists. The Russian embassy in Cairo confirmed that four of the deceased were Russian nationals. Among them were Ravil Valiullin, 40, and his wife Kristina, 39, both medical professionals from the Urussu Central Regional Hospital in Tatarstan. Their two daughters, who survived the ordeal, are currently receiving medical treatment in Egypt.
The other two Russian victims were children, according to reports from the Daily Mail. The Russian embassy in Cairo stated that most, if not all, of the passengers were Russian tourists traveling with the tour company Biblio Globus.
Authorities reported that 29 passengers were rescued without injuries, while 27 were taken to a hospital for treatment. Four remain in critical condition, and two individuals are still missing.

The cause of the submarine’s sinking remains unclear. Officials have not confirmed whether it collided with another object, but some reports suggest it may have struck a coral reef. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that safety concerns may have played a role. A tourist who had previously taken the same submarine tour described it as being in “terrible condition,” with broken and scuffed glass that made visibility poor. Other reports claim that the company operating the submersible did not keep proper records of its passengers and allegedly prioritized profits over safety measures.
Emergency Response and Investigation
Following the incident, Egyptian authorities deployed 21 ambulances to the scene. The Red Sea Health Directorate and the Egyptian Ambulance Authority were placed on high alert to assist in rescue and medical efforts.
This disaster is not an isolated event. In November 2024, a similar accident occurred near the resort town of Marsa Alam, where a boat named Sea Story sank with 45 people on board. The repeated incidents have raised concerns about safety regulations and oversight in Egypt’s marine tourism industry.
