Two foreign individuals who unlawfully voted in the 2024 presidential election are now in federal detention, following efforts by U.S. government agencies focused on immigration and election law enforcement.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced Tuesday that two Ukrainian nationals were detained for illegally voting in last year’s election, in collaboration with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The arrests are being recognized as a success for DOGE, a relatively new agency tasked with addressing government waste and supporting enforcement efforts.
DOGE was created to reduce government expenditure and bureaucracy and has since expanded its oversight to include certain federal compliance areas. Its personnel are embedded across various federal agencies and are authorized to assist with matters related to immigration and electoral integrity.
Tuesday’s arrests mark the first time DOGE’s internal data-sharing network has been directly linked to a law enforcement action related to voting fraud.
According to DHS, any individual who enters the country and violates its laws—including voting regulations—will face appropriate legal consequences.
Since its establishment, DOGE has played a growing role in supporting federal operations aimed at improving administrative efficiency and upholding the integrity of public processes, including elections.
