A fiery discussion on The View took an unexpected turn when co-host Whoopi Goldberg stood up and walked off the set mid-conversation. The topic? A controversial moment at a Miranda Lambert concert that’s sparked debate across social media and talk shows alike.
The country music singer had paused her performance to call out a group of fans in the front row for taking selfies while she was performing.
“These girls are worried about their selfies and not listening to the song,” Lambert said at the time. “It’s pissing me off a little bit. We’re here to hear some country music tonight.”
The hosts of The View had strong—and very different—opinions about what happened.
Sunny Hostin defended the fans, saying that if she paid top dollar for front-row tickets—around $757—she would feel entitled to capture the moment however she wanted. “I’m gonna take as many selfies as I want if I paid that much. I’m sorry. Just me,” she said.
Whoopi disagreed. “Stay home,” she fired back. “If you’re gonna spend $750 to come to my concert, then give me the respect of watching me while I’m doing my thing. Or don’t come.”
When Hostin said she might want to record the moment to rewatch later, Goldberg got up from her seat and said, “Turn on the television, girl,” before walking away from the table. Co-host Joy Behar asked, “Where are you going?” as the audience laughed. Goldberg replied, “I’m leaving y’all,” signaling she’d had enough of the debate—for now.
While the moment was dramatic, it didn’t appear to be serious. Goldberg later rejoined the conversation, and the show continued as usual.
As for the fans at the concert, one woman in the group, Adela Calin, later said she was “appalled” by Lambert’s onstage call-out. “It felt like I was back at school with the teacher scolding me,” she told NBC News, adding that the group had struggled to get a good photo because of the lighting and were excited to be there.
Lambert has not made any further public comment about the incident, and her representative declined to add more when asked.
