Elephants aren’t meant to live in chains — yet for over 80 years, Grandma Somboon knew nothing else. Stolen from the wild as a baby, she spent her life working in logging, tourism, and street begging in Thailand — forced to carry tourists, perform tricks, and endure endless days on her feet.
But at 87 years old, everything changed.
Thanks to the incredible team at Save Elephant Foundation, Somboon was finally rescued and brought to Elephant Nature Park, a sanctuary where she could finally rest. Weak, dehydrated, and worn from years of suffering, her body showed the scars of a lifetime of neglect.
And then came the moment that brought everyone to tears:
Somboon gently lay down — something newly rescued elephants rarely do right away — and slept deeply, safe for the first time in decades.
After years in chains, she didn’t need time to trust. She just needed rest.
She’s now receiving the care, love, and dignity she’s always deserved — and her story is a powerful reminder of the resilience of animals and the importance of protecting them from cruelty.
💚 Rest well, Grandma Somboon. You’re finally free.
