Five-year-old Noah Woods is being called a real-life hero after his quick thinking and brave actions saved his entire family from a devastating house fire.
It happened early Sunday morning in Bartow County, Georgia, when Noah woke up to flames next to his bed. Instead of panicking, he acted fast.
“I picked Lily up, got to the window with Lily, got the dog, and got out,” Noah told WSBTV. His two-year-old sister Lily and the family dog were the first ones he saved—climbing out the window to safety.
But Noah didn’t stop there.
After getting his little sister and dog out of harm’s way, he ran back inside the burning house to alert his uncle. Together, they helped wake up the rest of the family—nine people in total—all of whom made it out safely.
The Bartow County Fire Department praised Noah’s bravery on social media, calling him a hero:
“5-year-old Noah Woods recently woke up to find his bedroom on fire. The only available exit was a window. He got himself and his 2-year-old sister out, then re-entered to alert the rest of the family.”
Aside from a small burn on Noah’s wrist, everyone made it out unharmed. A few family members were treated for minor burns and smoke inhalation, but thanks to Noah’s quick response, no lives were lost.
To honor his bravery, the fire department plans to recognize Noah as an Honorary Bartow County Firefighter and present him with a Lifesaving Award.
“Noah saved our lives,” said his grandfather, David Woods. “If it wasn’t for him, we may not be here today.”
The family’s home was sadly destroyed in the fire, and a GoFundMe has been set up to help them rebuild. But thanks to one courageous 5-year-old, they’ll be rebuilding together.
