The FBI is making major internal changes and reportedly closing in on long-awaited answers in the January 6 pipe bomb investigation, according to recent comments by Deputy Director Dan Bongino.
During a May 29 interview, Bongino revealed that resolving the mystery of the two pipe bombs planted near the Republican and Democratic National Committee headquarters on January 6, 2021, has been a top priority since he stepped into his role.
“The second we got in, I put a team on it and said, ‘I want answers on this,’” Bongino shared. He added that the investigation has made significant progress, saying, “I’m pretty confident that we’re closing in on some suspects.”
The unsolved pipe bomb case has lingered for over four years, raising questions among the public. While hundreds of individuals have been arrested in connection with events at the Capitol, the identity of the pipe bomb suspect has remained unknown—until now.

“The Director and I are making important personnel changes at the FBI,” he wrote. “We are moving disciplined, focused leaders into key roles and removing employees who have violated their oaths or allowed partisanship to affect their work.”
Bongino emphasized that accountability is at the heart of these changes. “The process is ongoing and will not stop,” he stated.
