I Met a Girl at a Party… and Her Mom Nearly Gave Me a Heart Attack

I once met a girl at a party, and somehow, we ended up waking up together the next morning. She rushed out in a panic—something about being late—while I had the luxury of a slow breakfast and even managed a nice bath.

Just as I was cleaning up, I noticed something on the table: her earrings. Not just any earrings, either—beautiful, heavy, vintage ones she’d mentioned the night before. “They were my great-grandmother’s,” she’d said.

So, naturally, I figured I should return them.

I headed over to the address she’d casually mentioned the night before and rang the bell. A woman who looked like an older version of her—robe, messy morning hair—opened the door.

I smiled and said, “Hey, could you please give these to Julia? She left them at my place yesterday.”

The woman froze. She took the earrings slowly, eyeing me with a strange expression.

“Yesterday?” she asked.

“Yeah,” I nodded. “She forgot them.”

There was a long pause.

“But… Julia died six years ago.”

I just stood there—completely stunned, unsure if I’d walked into some cruel joke or a ghost story.

Then, from somewhere inside the house, I heard a voice shout:

“Mum! Stop messing with him!”

Julia came bounding into view, very much alive and very much rolling her eyes.

Her mother burst out laughing. “Sorry, I couldn’t resist. You looked so terrified!”

She invited me in for coffee. That’s how I met my future mother-in-law—and survived the weirdest prank I’ve ever experienced before breakfast.
