A Katy, Texas man has been sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for assaulting a law enforcement officer. According to court records, on August 1, 2023, Kevin Dominguez, 26, approached a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint on U.S. Highway 57. A canine unit alerted agents to the presence of a person in the vehicle’s trunk. When agents approached, Dominguez reversed the car, striking one agent, and fled the scene.

A high-speed pursuit followed, during which a helicopter observed two individuals exiting the car into a field. One of them was later identified as a noncitizen. Dominguez was arrested in September 2023 and pleaded guilty in January 2024.

In a separate case, four individuals were arrested in El Paso, Texas, on federal charges linked to an alleged effort to transport noncitizens. Authorities observed suspicious activity at a local motel, where several individuals were seen entering and exiting vehicles with temporary plates.

Following further investigation, multiple individuals were arrested, and seven additional people were found in a motel room. Authorities allege that the four arrested individuals played roles in coordinating transportation and lodging. Each faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.

In another incident, a Honduran citizen was taken into custody in Austin, Texas, after being found at a county jail. The individual, Melvin Armando Funes-Canales, had previously been removed from the U.S. and was reportedly convicted of multiple crimes, including burglary and drug-related offenses. He now faces a charge of illegal re-entry, which carries a potential sentence of up to 10 years.

All sentencing outcomes will be determined by a federal district judge based on established legal guidelines.
