Pit Bull With Giant Tumor Finds Love and Comfort in Final Chapter

When a stray pit bull named Libby was brought to the Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County last August, she arrived with a heartbreaking condition: a 10-pound tumor—about the size of a volleyball—on her leg.

Despite the shocking sight, shelter workers immediately saw the sweetness in Libby’s eyes and were determined to help her, even though they weren’t sure what her future would hold.

Tests revealed the tumor was in the bone of her upper right leg and causing her intense pain. Amputation was the only option to relieve her suffering. Thanks to generous donations, Libby underwent successful surgery and was finally pain-free.

But there was both good and bad news. While the tumor was gone, tests showed Libby had aggressive bone cancer. Her time might be short.

Still, a miracle came her way: a vet tech fell in love with Libby and adopted her, vowing to make her final days full of love. Now renamed Wiggles, she spends her time napping on the couch, playing with her dog brother, and enjoying the warmth of a real home.

“There’s something in her eyes that begs for love and safety,” her new mom said. “I couldn’t turn away from that.”

Though her journey has been difficult, Wiggles now has what every dog deserves—love, comfort, and a family.
