If you’ve recently picked up tomatoes from the store, stop and check your packaging now—two major tomato recalls have just been announced due to potential salmonella contamination.
🚫 What’s Been Recalled?
Two different suppliers—Ray & Mascari Inc. and Williams Farms Repack LLC—have issued recalls involving tomatoes sold in 14 states.
Here’s what to look for:
- Ray & Mascari Inc.
- Product: 4-count “VINE RIPE TOMATOES”
- Packaging: Plastic clamshell container
- UPC: 7 96553 20062 1
- Sold at: Gordon Food Service Stores

- Williams Farms Repack LLC
- Product: Tomatoes sent to wholesalers and distributors

❗ Why the Recall?
The issue was first discovered when Hanshaw & Capling Farms in Florida identified a possible salmonella contamination in tomatoes sent to Ray & Mascari. Williams Farms also found potential contamination in their facilities and issued a similar recall.
⚠️ What Is Salmonella?
According to the Cleveland Clinic, salmonella is a bacterial infection that can cause:
- Diarrhea
- Fever
- Stomach cramps
It usually clears up on its own, but it can be serious—especially for young children, seniors, and people with weakened immune systems.
✅ What Should You Do?
If you have any of the recalled tomatoes:
- Do NOT eat them
- Return them to the store for a full refund
- Or safely throw them away
All stores involved have been notified and should have information posted for customers.
Stay Safe: Always Wash Produce and Practice Safe Food Handling
Even with non-recalled items, always wash your fruits and veggies thoroughly and store them properly to reduce the risk of foodborne illness.
