A 23-year-old man was arrested early Tuesday morning after allegedly attempting to climb the perimeter wall of the Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida. According to law enforcement records, the man claimed he wanted to “spread the gospel” and expressed a desire to marry one of the former president’s granddaughters.
Authorities identified the individual as Anthony Thomas Reyes, who was taken into custody by the Palm Beach Police Department after triggering an alarm while trying to enter the property. U.S. Secret Service officers detained him without incident before local police arrived and charged him with trespassing.
This wasn’t Reyes’ first encounter with law enforcement at the same location. He had previously been warned by officers for trespassing at Mar-a-Lago on New Year’s Eve. Despite that warning, Reyes returned and was once again caught attempting to enter the grounds unlawfully.
According to detention records, Reyes was initially held on a $1,000 bail, which was later increased to $50,000. Authorities have indicated that federal charges may also be considered.
At the time of the incident, the former president was not present at the resort.
A Secret Service spokesperson confirmed the event, stating, “An adult male was arrested early Tuesday morning… for unlawfully entering the Mar-a-Lago Club property in Florida. Shortly after midnight, the individual scaled a perimeter fence and triggered alarms.”
Law enforcement officials continue to investigate the motives and background of the suspect. No injuries were reported during the incident.
